Panoramical

Panoramical is a game where you exploring a series of worlds by morphing and manipulating audio and visual effects. Each chapter starts as the camera shows a colorful but stark plain moving forward continuously in first-person perspective. Using a 16 channel x/y control setup—the same that is used both for stage lighting and for controlling audio effects in a sampler-based studio—the player unfolds the musical secrets and sculptural expanse of each space. Subtle tweaks to each control graph subtly or dramatically change certain parameters of the world. Sometimes these tweaks add towering psychedelic geographic features that would be at home on a science fiction planet rising alongside spectacular orchestral swells. Other times, the changes are subtle changes in the poetic colors underbrush foliage, with subtle static blips accompanying. But what makes Panoramical so intriguing is that each of the 16 elements can be interactively blended and stacked together to create and reveal new features both of geographic, chronological, and musical space. The fullness of the performativity of the work only unfolds itself through time and the curiosity of the player to test and observe these complex spatial poetics.
