What would fandom look like as queered performance and happenings, reconstructed as queered, inclusive fandom and art? In a cultural world ever more fragmented, Los Angeles-based Johnnie JungleGuts traipses boldly through preconceptions with his soundtrack dance performances, gallery-hosted all-ages Pokemon tournaments and Final Fantasy fan art sessions, as well as his drawing output. A thread running throughout his oeuvre in past years has been a 49 part sprawling series of videos called “L3t’s Gay FFVI”. In this series, JungleGuts co-opts the incredibly popular “Let’s Play” YouTube format, as well as one of the universally acclaimed best videogames of all time, as a way to engage in long-form, diverse, discussions about cultural production and the limits of fandom. In each episode, a new guest is invited to share playtime and their queer knowledge both personal and professional, that accumulates and gets mixed together with the memories and digital archives during the untold hours of unfolding epic battles and beloved heroic struggle.
